The Melbourne Highland Games & Celtic Festival traditionally holds a Ceilidh on the Friday evening preceding the Games.
What is a Ceilidh?
Originally the word Ceilidh (kay-lee) descended from the Gaelic word for ‘gathering’ or ‘party’. Nowadays Ceilidhs are still held but they differ from those of the olden days. They feature Scottish folk music and dance and are sometimes held on special occasions, such as weddings. They are also held on regular basis in village halls throughout Scotland and the world.
